Many people feel confused when thinking about where to go on a weekend, but we are here to tell you a off-beat place from Bangalore. Today I am going to share a journey plan from Bangalore to Gandikota - Weekend Road Trip.

Gandikota is a small village in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. The village is majorly known for housing the spectacular gorge which is famously adjudged as the Grand Canyon of India.

How to Reach Bangalore to Gandikota By Road

Distance - The driving distance is 297 km from Bangalore and 212km from Nellore.

Approximately 5hrs from Bangalore.

The most preferred option to reach Gandikota is by road from Bangalore. The railway stations near Gandikota are Jammalamadugu (18 km away), Kadapa (77 km away), and Tadipatri (85 km).

When to visit and where to stay

The best time to visit Gandikota will be from September to February. The weather is pleasant. Other times it is very hot during day time though nights are pleasant.

During your visit don't stay in any other hotels rather try to book a tent which is adjacent to the gorge and you will get a spectacular view from your tent.

Day 1:

Arrival at Gandikota: We stayed in a tent, details already mentioned above. One can take private hotels but you will miss the view of the Gorge.


Gandikota Fort: The name can be broken into two parts – 'gandi' meaning canyon and 'kota' meaning fort. In fact, the entire village in the area is known by this name.

The Gandikota Fort is another attraction of this place. The fort was the center of power for various dynasties, such as the Kalyani Chalukyas, Pemmasani Nayakas, and the Golconda Sultanate.

Start your tour by visiting the famous Gandikota Fort, which was built in the 13th century by the Kamma Kings. Explore the fort's impressive architecture and enjoy panoramic views of the gorge from the fort walls.

Ranganatha Swamy Temple: Visit the ancient Ranganatha Swamy Temple located within the fort complex, which is dedicated to Lord Ranganatha, a form of Lord Vishnu. Admire the intricate carvings and sculptures of the temple.

Sunset Viewpoint: Head to the sunset viewpoint located near the fort to witness the breathtaking sunset over the gorge. The view during sunset is mesmerizing, with the gorge changing colors as the sun sets behind the hills.

Overnight Stay: Return to your hotel or guesthouse for an overnight stay.




Day 2:

Gorge Start your day by visiting the Pennar River and gorge viewpoints. You can take a walk along the riverbanks and enjoy the scenic beauty of the gorge from different viewpoints. Don't miss the famous "Jama Masjid" viewpoint, which offers panoramic views of the gorge and the river.

Madhavaraya Temple: Visit the Madhavaraya Temple, which is located on the banks of the Pennar River. It is a beautifully carved temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is known for its intricate sculptures and architecture.

Adventure Activities: If you're an adventure enthusiast, you can engage in activities like rock climbing, rappelling, and trekking in the surrounding hills and cliffs. There are several adventure camps and agencies that offer these activities.
